(Web) Editing the Scene Breakdown

Edit the scene breakdown when there's a new script version or if you'd like to tailor it to your production's needs.

Editing Scenes

Entering Edit Mode

To edit your production's scene breakdown:

  1. Click the Edit button in the upper-right corner.

  2. In edit mode, you can:

    • Add new scenes (or acts)

    • Edit existing scenes (or acts)

    • Delete scenes (or acts)

    • Move scenes (or acts)

  3. Exit edit mode by clicking on the blue close (X) button in the upper-right corner once you are done with your changes.

🚨 Important: Editing the breakdown requires Contributor access or higher (Viewers cannot make changes). All edits are shared with all users and apply to the iPad app's visual breakdown.

Adding New Scenes or Acts

To add a new scene or act:

  1. Click the Add Scene button, or open the dropdown to select Add Act. Alternatively, hover over the breakdown and click the yellow plus (+) button between existing scenes.

  2. Choose where to place the new scene using the Place After dropdown. If you used the yellow plus (+) button, the placement will be pre-selected for you.

  3. Fill out the scene details:

    • Scene Name

    • Scene Number

    • Page of the Connected Script

    • Location

    • Time of Day

    🚨 Use the actual PDF page number to connect the scene correctly to the script. If you need to change which script is connected to the breakdown, please refer to this article.

  4. Add characters to the scene:

    • To add existing characters, use the search bar or scroll through the list of characters, then click their name.

    • To add a new character, type their name in the search bar and click Add New Character.

  5. Click Save at the bottom of the side panel.

Editing, Moving or Deleting Existing Scenes

To edit a scene:

  1. Click the pencil icon next to the scene you want to update.

  2. Make any needed changes to the scene details.

  3. Click Save at the bottom of the side panel.

To move a scene:

  1. Click the pencil icon next to the scene you want to move.

  2. Click the three dots (...) in the upper-right of the Edit Scene panel.

  3. Click Move Scene.

  4. Choose the new placement, then click the Confirm Placement button.

  5. Click Save at the bottom of the side panel.

To delete a scene:

  1. Click the pencil icon next to the scene you want to delete.

  2. Click the three dots (...) in the upper-right of the Edit Scene panel.

  3. Click Delete Scene.

  4. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Editing Characters

Entering Edit Mode

To edit characters in your production breakdown:

  1. Click the Edit button in the upper right corner of the character table view.

  2. In edit mode, you can:

    • Add new characters

    • Edit existing characters

  3. Exit edit mode by clicking on the blue close (X) button in the upper-right corner once you are done with your changes.

Adding New Characters

To add a new character:

  1. Click the Add Character button in the upper right corner.

  2. Fill in the character's name.

  3. Select the scenes they should appear in.

  4. Click Save at the bottom of the side panel.

Editing Existing Characters

To edit a character:

  1. Click the pencil icon next to the character you want to update.

  2. In this space, you can:

    • Change a character's name

    • Update the scenes they appear in

    • Delete them from the breakdown entirely

  3. Click Save at the bottom of the side panel.
