Once your Attribute Types and Values are set up, each team member needs their own attributes: these are matched against document attributes to decide what they can see in the Binder. Assignment is done in the Web App by the Production Owner, Master Admins, and Admins. If you're new to Granular Access Control, start with Introduction to Granular Access Control.
Granular Access Control is a premium add-on, enabled per production by the ProductionPro team. The options described below only appear on productions where it has been enabled — if you'd like to use it on your production, contact us.
Editing a Team Member's Attributes
In the Web App, open your production and go to Production Settings.
In the Team section, click the ellipsis next to the team member and select Edit Permissions.
In the Edit Member panel, assign a value for each enabled Attribute Type, then click Save.
Attribute Types work as follows:
Department - one value per team member.
Episodes, Document Types, Document Statuses - multiple values allowed.
Changes take effect immediately when you save and update the team member's Binder right away.
🚨 Important: A team member must match a document on every enabled Attribute Type to see it (AND logic). If someone's missing a document in their Binder, compare their attributes to the document's to spot the mismatch.
Who Can Edit Whom
You can only edit the attributes of team members with a lower permission level than your own:
Owner - can edit everyone, including Master Admins.
Master Admins - can edit Admins, Contributors, and Viewers (not the Owner or other Master Admins).
Admins - can edit Contributors and Viewers (not other Admins or above).
Your level also limits what you can assign:
Owners/Master Admins - can assign any value to anyone they can edit.
Admins - can only assign values they hold themselves; other values appear but are locked, so assigning attributes never grants access beyond the assigner's own.
Owners and Master Admins Don't Have Access Attributes
The Owner and Master Admins always see every Binder document, so there are no attribute values to assign to them. When editing the Owner or a Master Admin, the panel shows an informational message instead of attribute inputs: all Binder documents are accessible to them without access settings.
Their Department can still be set — it identifies them within the production but does not limit their document access.
New Team Members
Access Attributes are assigned to team members after they join the production: it is not yet possible to assign attributes while inviting someone or while their invitation is pending.
🚨 Important: A member with no attributes assigned can only see documents that also carry no Access Attributes. Assign new members' attributes promptly so they can see what they need from day one.
